Consumer Consultation: Scope of Practice
We have an opportunity for consumers to participate in an online roundtable to gather insights for a government review on 'Scope of Practice' for medical practitioners in Australia.
The Unleashing the Potential of our Health Workforce, Scope of Practice Review began in September 2023, led by Professor Mark Cormack, a highly accomplished health system and public policy executive and the former chief executive of Health Workforce Australia.
Working to full scope of practice means that a health professional is able to work to the full extent of their profession’s recognised skill base and/or regulatory guidelines. The benefits of health professionals working to their full scope of practice include:
- better health outcomes for people,
- increasing the range and number of services provided and
- better job satisfaction and retention for health practitioners
The Strengthening Medicare Taskforce Report explored critical areas for government action to redesign primary care as the core of an effective, modern health system. The report recommended governments work together to review the barriers and incentives for primary health care professionals working to their full scope of practice.
The review is examining barriers and incentives health professionals face working to their full scope of practice in primary care.
The release of Issues Paper 1 on 23 January 2024 marked the beginning of the second phase of the review and a second public submission process
In partnership with Professor Cormack, CHF is conducting a consumer consultation to generate consumer views and insights into questions around medical practitioner scope of practice to feed into the larger review process.
The first stage of this consultation is a webinar presentation by Professor Cormack and CHF CEO, Elizabeth Deveny. This webinar was recorded on Tues 5 March 2024.
Following this, CHF will be running a 90-minute roundtable for consumers to share their thoughts on Tuesday March 26th from 1:00-2:30pm AEDT. To participate in the roundtable, you will need to have watched the webinar, either live or later, on-demand.
Selected consumers will be remunerated at a rate of $89.60 per hour. This will be $224.00 (2.5 hours) in total.
Please submit your expression of interest by Wed 13th March at 09:00am (AEDT).
We expect to confirm the selected participants later that same week.
All expressions of interest will be assessed by an independent panel with an aim to get a diverse range of perspectives. We will keep the information provided in your expression of interest confidential.
